Adobe InDesign

InDesign by Adobe is a desktop publishing tool used mainly to create and design posters, banners, flyers and brochures. Since it supports XML, it makes it possible to export its content to both online and digital formats. It also supports formats to create digital magazines, e-books. Written in C++, it is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X.

How it is used in the industry:

InDesign is not widely used in the industry. Managers were not particular about students knowing InDesign although they value the skill.

How it is used in the MSTC Program:

InDesign is not taught to graduate students but is offered to undergraduate students.

Courses in which InDesign is taught in the MSTC Program:

ENG 314 – Technical Documentation Design and Editing

Through this course, students are taught the basics of using InDesign and are assigned the task of creating and designing a document using InDesign. Instructors mainly teach the students how to create brochures using InDesign.
